Maitri Defined

Processed with MOLDIV

Maitri (Pronounced Mi-tree) is an ancient Sanskrit term used to define the Buddhist principle or practice of unconditional compassion and loving-kindness towards oneself.

It is believed that through the practice of maitri, the establishment of love, benevolence, kindness, unconditional friendship, and perfect virtue of sympathy towards oneself will manifest into the same for others, and ultimately, for the universe as a whole.

In short, one must care and know one’s self in order to care for and know others.

In choosing to dedicate time for yourself, your body, and your health, you are practicing maitri. Regular practice of this principle will allow you to go out into the world and do what you do best, with a clear mind and a body in balance.
